Episode 5: Courage For The Conversations That Count

Today, I’m filled with gratitude and happiness as I share some truly exciting news: my new book, Preparing Their Hearts, Not Just Their Funeral, is now officially available! And just so you know,, I assure you this will be the last book title I write that mentions a funeral. (After “Not At Their Funeral” and this one, my family and friends have teasingly asked if I might consider something a bit lighter for the next!)

But in all seriousness, this book means so much to me, especially as I approach my 50th birthday, a milestone that has me reflecting deeply on what really matters. The older I get, the more I realize how precious time is, and how quickly our chances to say what matters and nurture what lasts can slip through our fingers. This project began as a gentle nudge on my heart, but it grew into a mission: to help us, as adult children, look beyond the paperwork and the plans, and focus on preparing our parents and ourselves for what truly lies ahead.

Life is full of transitions. Maybe you’re caring for aging parents, maybe you’re healing from loss, or maybe you’re just starting to realize how important it is to have real, honest conversations about faith, forgiveness, and hope. I know these talks aren’t always easy. In fact, sometimes the hardest part is simply starting.

That’s why this book exists. It’s an invitation not to wait until tomorrow to have the conversations that matter most. Don’t let fear, busyness, or discomfort rob you of the chance to offer forgiveness, to pray together, or to share your hope for eternity. These are the gifts that outlast everything else.

As you turn the pages of this book, I hope you find the courage for honest conversations, wisdom for gentle encouragement, and comfort in knowing you’re not walking this journey alone. Whether your family is celebrating or facing uncertainty, you have the power to help light the way home for your parents and for yourself.
